Child Sex Abuse Victims hold press conference following the
vote by the Senate on Bill S-540
This bill is an amendment to repeal Charitable Immunity Protections for civil
actions involving the sexual molestation of a minor.
What: Several victims of childhood sexual abuse and supporters of Bill S-540 will hold a press
conference after the New Jersey Senate votes on the Bill. This Bill will modify the State's
Charitable Immunity statute which currently insulates organizations that negligently hire and/or
supervise employees who commit sexual offenses against children from a civil. action,
Who: Those who will be attending include:
- John Hardwick, a victim of sexual abuse while attending the prestigious American Boy Choir
School in Princeton, New Jersey; and. Plaintiff in the matter, Hardwick V. American Boy Choir,
currently pending before the New Jersey State Supreme Court.
- Mark Crawford, a victim of clerical childhood sexual. abuse within. the Newark Archdiocese and.
member of SNAP and Board. of Directors of MaleSurvivor; the National Organization against
Male Sexual Victimization.
- Ben Cotton, New Jersey Director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.
- Betty and Joe Robrecht,, at age twelve (12) their daughter was a victim of sexual abuse by a
Dominican Sisters of a Cadwelll nun in Elizabeth. Tragically, their daughter committed suicide
- Johnny Vega, founder of SNAP- Latino, the first Latino based SNAP Chapter in. the United
States,
- And clergy, victims, and other supporters.
When: The vote will begin. Thursday. May 20.. 2004 at 2:00 PM,
A press conference will be held following he vote on. Bill S-540.
