LONEGAN: BEATING TAX HIKE SCHEME SHOWS THE PEOPLE CAN FIGHT CITY HALL

Bogota Mayor and www.nogastaxhike.com founder Steve Lonegan today said that Governor McGreevey’s decision to oppose a proposed gasoline tax increase shows that the people can beat “City Hall” and that “Trenton will never be the same again.”

“Score one for the ‘little guy’,” Lonegan said.  “Three weeks ago, this was, as one newspaper called it, a ‘done deal’.  Today it is dead, at least for now, and that’s because of the more than 11,000 people who signed our petition and helped spread the word about this outrageous tax increase,” the Mayor said.

Mayor Lonegan said that special thanks should go to Jim Gearhart of New Jersey 101.5, Don Williams of WOND 1400 in Atlantic City, the Asbury Park Press and the Philadelphia Inquirer for bringing this issue out to the public, and to State Senator Leonard Lance, who mobilized State Senate Republicans to oppose this tax hike.

Lonegan said that the timing of the Governor’s announcement was interesting, coming only a day after nogastaxhike.com requested permits for a massive Trenton rally.
