MEMBERS JOIN NATIONAL CAMPAIGN
TO COVER THE UNINSURED Englewood - Assemblywoman Loretta Weinberg and Assemblyman Gordon M. Johnson announced today that they have joined a national campaign aimed at covering the uninsured. On Wednesday, May 12th, as part of a statewide effort to cover uninsured children, they will join other New Jersey legislators and open their district office from 9AM to 5PM as application assistance sites for New Jersey FamilyCare, a program which helps financially eligible families obtain health insurance for their children to cover the cost of routine physician visits, prescriptions, hospitalization, lab tests, x-rays, eyeglasses and dental care. In New Jersey alone there are 1.7 million uninsured people. 210,000 are children. Currently, New Jersey FamilyCare has enrolled 99,000 children. However, New Jersey is only covering 60% of those children who are eligible - it is estimated that there are 70,000 uninsured children living in New Jersey that meet the eligibility requirements for FamilyCare, but are not enrolled.
