: TRENTON - Two of New Jersey's leading LGBTI rights organizations, Garden State Equality and New Jersey Stonewall Democrats, have endorsed Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Congress in New Jersey's 13th Congressional district, encompassing parts of Hudson, Union, Middlesex and Essex Counties, and parts of New Jersey's two largest cities, Newark and Jersey City. 

: Mayor Joe Vas is a longtime progressive and one of the LGBTI community's staunchest allies.  He is a Prime Sponsor of the transgender equality bill in the state legislature.  He supports needle exchange to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.  And he has spoken out repeatedly against amending the federal and state constitutions to ban marriage equality.   

: Our organizations, New Jersey Stonewall Democrats and Garden State Equality, see no choice but to join the Sierra Club and the Hudson County chapter of Democracy for America in endorsing Mayor Joe Vas for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Congress in New Jersey's 13th Congressional district.
