: In April of 1981, a grand jury indicted William Musto on 36 counts of racketeering, extortion and fraud.  He was convicted on March 26, 1982 and , on May 10, 1982, was sentenced to seven years in prison.  Despite the legal onlsaught, Musto campaigned for the the City Commision of Union City.  He won reelection on May 11, 1982.  After William Musto was removed from office by the courts, his wife Rhyta won the subsequent special election.
