N.J. Senator-To-Be Menendez Already Working Behind Scenes

WASHINGTON -- New Jersey Rep. Robert Menendez won't be sworn in as the state's newest U.S. senator for another month, but already he's getting up to speed on the new job and trying to make sure he keeps it.

In choosing Menendez, Gov.-elect Jon Corzine passed over several other Democratic congressmen who made it no secret they wanted to serve out the remaining year on Corzine's Senate term. At least three -- Robert Andrews, Rush Holt and Frank Pallone -- are considering a run in the 2006 primary.
