: A cold night, 1971. The Christmas show at Union Hill High School in Union City, had ended a half-hour earlier. I was outside the building with friends when a police car pulled up. A cop got out bellowing "Break it up, get outta here." Hoodlums hanging out, he must've thought.

: We'd been through it before. Like George W. said, "When we were young and wild, we were young and wild." 

: But not all of us. One kid, a friend yet never part of the wild bunch, told the officer that he was president of the Union Hill student council. He took the cop aside for a chat. The policeman got back in his cruiser and drove off.
