CODEY TO DISCUSS STEM CELL RESEARCH PROPOSAL

(TRENTON) ­ Acting Governor Richard J. Codey on Wednesday, Jan. 12,will visit Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation where he will discuss details regarding his stem cell research proposal.

He will be joined by Acting Health Commissioner Fred M. Jacobs, M.D., doctors from the Kessler Institute and stem cell research advocates.

Codey, in his State of the State Address today, announced that he will ask voters to approve $230 million in bonds to fund grants for stem cell research. He also proposed using $150 million in unspent bond money to build a facility for the New Jersey Stem Cell Research Institute.

Codey was the primary sponsor of legislation signed into law in January 2004 that legalized stem cell research in New Jersey.
