TASK FORCE ON MENTAL HEALTH SETS PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULE
(TRENTON) The Task Force on Mental Health will hold a series of public hearings next month to accept testimony on how to improve New Jersey s mental health system.
Testimony should focus on how to provide for a comprehensive mental health services system so as to assure the availability of, and access to, treatment, rehabilitation, and supportive services necessary to assist individuals with mental illness in reaching and maintaining their highest level of functioning in the least restrictive setting.
Input is also being accepted through the task force s newly launched website www.nj.gov/mentalhealth, which offers visitors an opportunity to communicate their thoughts to the task force and provides details about the public hearings.
The public hearing schedule and locations are as follows:
* Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Technology Education Center, T128, Bergen Community College, Paramus.
* Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at L Hommedieu Hall, Middlesex County College, Edison.
* Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Dennis Flyer Memorial Theatre, Lincoln Hall Camden County College, Blackwood.
Acting Governor Richard J. Codey, on Nov. 16, signed an executive order establishing the eleven-member Task Force on Mental Health. The task force is charged with conducting a comprehensive review of New Jersey's mental health system. It will issue recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature concerning legislative, regulatory and administrative changes that are needed to improve the delivery of and access to mental health services in New Jersey.
